UKK is pleased to invite you to How Artists Work: Alternative Spaces and Post-Studio Contexts – a performative walk hosted by UKK’s Art and Economics Working Group in collaboration with Golden Days.

In this event, the idea of work will be connected to the built environment by collectively visiting different sites of artistic production within the cityscape of Copenhagen. During the event, UKK will focus on alternative artistic “studios” or “work contexts” that highlight different architectural typologies such as reprogrammed or repurposed public buildings, cafes, storefronts, domestic spaces, and artist studios themselves.

The point of departure is to reflect upon work from an interdisciplinary perspective between artists and architects by providing perspective on how artists work in space in diverse ways that can create counter models of artistic, spatial, and cultural production. In Denmark, as gentrification makes cities less accessible, more artistic working and living solutions are needed, which raises questions – what types of spaces are needed where, what building techniques should be utilized, what artistic outcomes do they encourage, who has access to these spaces, a.o. As such, this event will introduce alternative and post-studio spaces to unpack interrelated processes between art, work, and urban development and highlight agencies artists can have within these processes.

The performative walking tour will be carried out by architect, curator, and UKK board member Lawrence Ebelle and artist, art organizer, and UKK chair Scott William Raby in Nørrebro along with collaborators Sorte Firkant, Skitse, The Hospital for Self-Medication, a.o.

*This event is free of admission. Sign up is encouraged (at info@ukk.community) as there is a 20 person limit. The event accessibility varies in relation to changes in the built environment – if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. The performance will be presented primarily in English.
