In this presentation and workshop, UKK will introduce their recent project on commoning diversity, with a focus on the interrelated connections to working conditions and class relations in the Danish art sector. By describing some of the events and strategies behind their recent programming in Denmark, UKK will highlight intersectional approaches to diversity in relation to improving working conditions in the broader art field
This is part of UKK’s approach to focus on the inseparable relationships between diversity/identity politics and class/worker’s rights. By utilizing this approach, UKK hopes to create more political solidarity and coalition building within (art sector) advocacy toward more inclusive and socially sustainable approaches to socio-economic justice in the art sector. At the conclusion of the presentation, UKK will pose and moderate questions for discussion to their Nordic and Baltic partners for consideration and debate in relation to the context of the networking event hosted by Art Workers’ Union Lithuania (MDPS) in Vilnius, (LT).
UKK’s presentation & workshop will be carried out by Lawrence Ebelle (curator, UKK board member), Scott William Raby (artist, UKK chair), and will feature Noah Holtegaard (artist, UKK communications coordinator and board member).
The network meeting is hosted by Art Workers’ Union Lithuania (MDPS) organized by MDPS Coordinator Vaida Stepanovaitė ( MDPS Coordinator) and Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė (MDPS spokesperson and Kaunas Branch Representative) and is generously supported by Nordic Culture Point.
Lawrence Ebelle (FR/US) is an architect, curator, art organizer based in Copenhagen. Her visual cultural practice encompasses different social-political and spatial questions across exhibition contexts and the built environment. She is a board member of Building Diversity, The Danish Association of Architects, and UKK, where she leads UKK’s diversity working group and is a co-founder of UKK’s Art and Economy Working group.
Scott William Raby (DK/US) is an artist, art organizer, and chair of UKK since 2022. His art practice often deals with rethinking political-economic structures, organizational/institutional contexts, and (im)material infrastructures within art and broader society. He currently lives in Aalborg and works collaboratively across various artistic projects and platforms, including f.eks., which he co-founded in 2018.
Noah Holtegaard (DK) is an artist, communications coordinator of UKK since 2025, and a board member since 2022. His art practice engages with queer storytelling through digital media such as 3D modeling, animation, video, and image manipulation, often drawing inspiration from video game culture and Renaissance art. He leads UKK’s working group Quick Sand, Slow Steps on art education and is the former Equality Representative at the University of Gothenburg.
